There are 14 paid holidays in Newfoundland and Labrador. The Newfoundland and Labrador Statutory Holidays 2023 include St. Patrick’s Day, Good Friday, St. George’s Day, Victoria Day, Discovery Day, Memorial Day, Orangeman’s Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, Armistice Day, Boxing Day, Christmas.
The following is a list of designated Paid Holidays for 2023 and the dates which they will be observed by employees working daily hours Monday-Friday.

Special Rules for Public Holidays in Newfoundland and Labrador –

  • One (1) additional day in each year that, in the opinion of the Permanent Head, is recognized to be a civic holiday in the area in which the employee is employed. If no civic holiday is provided, the employee shall be granted an additional day at a time to be determined by the Permanent Head.
  • Hospital and institutional support staff may be given five extra days paid leave when they are awarded nine designated holidays. The schedule of designated holidays rests solely with the Employer or as prescribed by collective agreement. These Designated Holidays are New Year’s Day, Good Friday, Victoria (Commonwealth) Day, Memorial Day, Labour Day, Armistice (Remembrance) Day, Christmas Day, Boxing Day and one civic holiday.
